“By this I know that You are well pleased with me, because my enemy does not triumph over me”. (Psalm41: 11)

A few months ago, on the way to school, one of my daughters started asking in the most candid of ways “so, how is your day going to be today, mommy”?…I was startled at first, and began an entire speech about our God’s sovereignty and our inability to “arrange our day” or tell from the first hour of the morning how is going to unfold… 😊I gently told her she needed to ask the question differently because I’m not in control, so I can’t be certain.
Today, however, as I dropped my son off to high school, I found myself asking him: “so, how is your day going to be Jayden”? “it’s going to be good, mom”, he replied. I smiled on my way back home, reflecting on how I came to be so certain I can ask such questions. I still believe that God is counting our days and nights, arranging our steps, and strengthening our feet. But I have come to realize that, as long as I remain in Him, resting under the shadow of His almighty wings, my day will be good. The joy can be found, daily! I am confident that He will show me favor, no matter the trials or challenges I may face.
“Certainty is the state of being completely confident about something, with no doubt that it is true or will happen,” the Cambridge Dictionary explains. While fleeing from his enemies, burdened by guilt and recovering from illness, David wanted to tell God that his unwavering confidence in His provision and love would be proven true—if, and when -his enemies would not overcome him, nor would they see him fall or succeed in their evil schemes.
We understand mentally that He is with us, yet we long for tangible proof. Our eyes seek visible evidence of God’s deliverance in specific situations before our faith can grow stronger. It’s not about being spared from trials—we know as Christians that challenges are inevitable—but about experiencing His presence in real, undeniable ways amid the fire. During my first year of college, I learned to pray that my enemies would not overcome me. This lesson came from an unlikely source: a pagan wife advising her husband, the wicked Haman, saying, “If Mordecai, before whom you have begun to fall, is of Jewish descent, you will not prevail against him but will surely fall before him” (Esther 8:14).
And we know the story. Mordecai was of Jewish descent, and the victory he achieved over Haman, lead to the triumph of the Jewish people living in exile within the Persian Empire. This success was not by their own might, but through the power of their great, Almighty God fighting on their behalf. They prayed, fasted, and humbled themselves before Him. Esther risked her life, defying all odds to seek an audience with the king. It was not their ethnicity or heritage that saved them, but their deep connection, faith, and trust in God that made them victorious. Their identity was not a mere label to boast about; they belonged to the Mighty God, the Father of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
I often wondered how Zeresh, Haman’s wife, knew this truth so surely. Could the Jews living among them show daily signs of their God’s presence? Preserving their culture and spiritual legacy? Maybe their habits, talks, and parenting showed loyalty to the Creator God—the only one deserving exclusive worship—in an empire full of idols.
Had they heard of God chasing Pharaoh at the Red Sea, giving water from the rock, or Jericho’s walls falling to trumpet blasts? What unusual acts did they do to show their enemies would fall? Though scattered, foreign, vulnerable, and under the king’s rule, the Jews were known as a people upheld by a God who protected and defended them. Can my neighbors say similar things about me? Zeresh’s bold declaration has become a prayer I often repeat.
No, I am not Jewish, but a Christian devoted to Jesus Christ. Because of this, I am promised an eternal, unfading inheritance. I share in His Divine nature, a chosen daughter honored to call Him Father. I belong to a royal priesthood, a holy nation, and His special people (1 Peter 2:9). Though scattered in a world not my home, I stand with millions of Christians—facing trials, injustice, and daily challenges. We deal with worries, fears, and a mind drawn to worldly success. We face competition, anger, hostility, and vanity. We endure illness and family divisions. We confront the Hamans of this world who seek to silence us, preventing us from standing for righteousness, safer school curricula for our children, and enduring biblical values.
Amid it all, I know one truth: rooted in Christ, standing firm daily with His Word and prayer as my weapons, my fiercest enemies will fall. I will overcome and emerge victorious, upheld by the promises of the Mighty God I trust. This God doesn’t dwell in a tent or temple but lives within me through the Holy Spirit (1 John 4:4). Trials will come, but joy, hope, and faith will remain. Our minds and hearts will not be defeated!
“By this, I know You love me, your favor is with me—if my enemies cannot prevail against me”, is my paraphrased prayer. And I know He loves me. I am confident He loves you. His favors are upon us. We belong to His royal lineage. The enemy’s attacks will fail and be trampled underfoot. The One within us is greater than the one in the world, it’s His promise.
We will see His protection, and we can tell our children, and our families that our day ahead will be blessed. We can tell our hearts to be at peace, because we rely on His promises, not our feelings. With certainty.
